Band

Tonight I went to the band concert at my brother's high school. He plays in the Wind Symphony. I've talked before about how amazing my brother is and what a talented trumpet player he is. I really enjoyed the Wind Symphony's performance tonight.

I always liked band. I played the alto saxophone from sixth grade to half of eleventh grade (due to 'The Incident That Shall Not be Mentioned'). I was not great. I was good enough, though, especially for one who never practiced or took private lessons. But I never wanted to be great; I didn't care about improving. However, I have this feeling I could have done really well. Maybe not to the point where I was the best of the best, like my brother is. But I probably could have made Wind Symphony if I really wanted to. In fact, one of the band directors actually encouraged me to audition for it, as well as one of the jazz bands. That was the year before 'The Incident'. I never cared much for jazz, though. Actually, not at all. And I still practically abhor it to this day - and want to cut my ears off every time I hear any type of jazz music. Ugh.

Anyway. I liked marching band the best. I didn't like sitting down at concerts to play Christmas jingles and slow, boring songs. I liked the competition, excitement, discipline, and movement of marching. Man oh man, it was always so fun: from band camp, to football games, to competitions... marching band was great.

Once a band geek, always a band geek.
For sure.
